Our Inspiration.
Since North45 architecture was founded in 2017, I have found our most successful projects are built upon collaborations with clients who share the same foundational beliefs. This provides a common starting point and shared set of principles to guide us along each step of the design process. Although each of our projects will invariably have its own distinct identity, all of our designs share the same core beliefs which are guided and driven by the principles noted below.
“Modern architecture is not a style, it’s an attitude, a way of being. It’s a fundamental reaction against noise.” Marcel Breuer
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” Leonardo da Vinci
“Minimalism is the intentional promotion of the things we most value and the removal of anything which distracts us from it.” Joshua Becker
“The good building is not one that hurts the landscape, but one which makes the landscape more beautiful than it was before the building was built.” Frank Lloyd Wright
“Buildings can have a beautiful silence.” Peter Zumpthor
“Another word for minimalism is ‘elegance’. Elegance is beautifully resolving an issue with minimal means.” Tom Kundig.
“Architecture should speak of it’s time and place, but yearn for timelessness.” Frank Gehry
“The details are not the details. They make the design.” Charles Eames
“Minimalism is not a lack of something. It’s simply the perfect amount of something.” Nicholas Burroughs
“I don’t think that architecture is only about shelter…it should be able to excite you, to calm you, to make you think.” Zaha Hadid.
“We borrow from nature the space upon which we build.” Tadao Ando
“Less is more.” Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe
